Bodyboarding

Jason Phillips at G-Land

Jason Phillips wearing surf sunglasses in G-Land
When choosing sunglasses for body boarding, consider the following:

1. A rigid frame with minimal give helps keep frames on your head. Flexible frames fail in the surf for the same reason that goggles fail - too much give lets them come off too easily. (Road Trip, Whistler, S Rat and Standard are all rigid frames.)

2. A non-elastic strap is required for the same reasons mentioned above. (Road Trip, Whistler, S Rat and Standard come with non-elastic straps.)

3. A rubber nose piece cushions the impact of the water when exiting through the backdoor. (Road Trip and Standard frames both have rubber nose pieces.)

4. Ventilation is important when surfing in colder waters - 66ºF, 19ºC and below. (Whistler and S Rat frames have a removable nose piece that separates the frame from the face to increase ventilation.)

5. A removable strap allows for use out of the water. (Included with Road Trip, Whistler and S Rat frames. Standard is offered as an option.)

6. For asian or wider faces, consider a wider frame. (Whistler and Road Trip frames)

7. For really thick prescriptions, you will need a flatter frame front to accept your lenses. (In order of flatness - S Rat, Whistler/ Road Trip, Standard)

7. A leash in addition to the strap keeps you from searching for your glasses after a bad wipe-out.
